Rain is confined to Anhui, Yunnan and Tibet, while the broader seven-day signal is almost steady, with the mean high edging from 29.8°C to 30°C. The sharper regional moves are more varied: Chongqing warms by 3.8°C, Sichuan by 2.4°C and Hong Kong by 2.3°C, while Heilongjiang eases by 7°C, Jilin by 5.4°C and Qinghai by 3°C.

At city level, the warmest readings are 34.8°C in Sanming, Meizhou and Turpan, pointing to conditions suited to lighter daytime clothing. The coolest city highs are much lower, with Guoluo at 13.4°C, Ali at 14.5°C and Naqu at 15.5°C, where warmer layers are more appropriate.

The widest day–night ranges call for flexible dressing. Baishan moves from 8.3°C to 28.2°C, a 19.9°C range; Fushun spans 10.2°C to 28.8°C; and Yili runs from 12°C to 30°C. In these cities, a light outer layer in the morning and simpler clothing later in the day would match the large temperature swing.

For the holiday period, the usual October pattern is more balanced. The North China Plain is typically 15 to 22°C under mostly clear skies, making Beijing and Xi'an comfortable for walking trips. The Yangtze region is usually 18 to 26°C with moderate humidity, while the south coast eases to 25 to 30°C as Guangzhou and Xiamen lose much of the summer stickiness. Western plateaus often bring cold mornings and mild afternoons, with day-night swings above 15°C; northern Xinjiang may see its first snow, and the north can meet its first strong cold front in the second half of the holiday.

Rain this week is most frequent in Chongqing, with 5 days out of 7, followed by Sichuan at 3 days, and Yunnan, Tibet and Guangdong at 2, 2 and 1 day respectively. By contrast, 22 of 34 provincial regions are currently dry, so much of the country has workable travel weather this week. For near-term trips before the holiday, Jincheng in Shanxi and Sanmenxia in Henan look sunny at 22.8°C and 22°C, Dalian in Liaoning is sunny at 24.8°C, and Yanqing in Beijing is cloudy at 25.2°C. Pack light layers for these cities, with a jacket for mornings and evenings; for Qinghai, Tibet and Heilongjiang, take warmer outerwear because lows are already near or below freezing.

Rain was distributed across Anhui, Hunan, Sichuan and Yunnan, while no snow areas were highlighted. Over the next six days, the national mean high is set to edge down from 30°C to 29.8°C, a change of about 0.2°C. The sharpest cooling is in Heilongjiang, down 6°C, with Liaoning and Jilin each easing by 5.6°C.

At city level, Meizhou in Guangdong was the hottest at 34.8°C, followed by Turpan in Xinjiang at 34.1°C and Longyan in Fujian at 33.8°C. Light clothing fits these highs, while the coolest city readings in Guoluo at 11.8°C, Yushu at 11.9°C and Naqu at 12.3°C call for warmer layers.

Day and night differences are large in several places. Zhangye moves from 29.2°C to 10°C, a 19.2°C range, while Baishan spans 18.3°C and Chengde 18°C. A layer that can be added after sunset is useful where afternoons are warm but nights fall quickly.

The strongest heat was led by Xinjiang. Turpan reached 45.4°C on 4 Aug, the highest city-day in the month, followed by Hami at 42.1°C on 5 Aug and Changji at 41.4°C on 4 Aug. These three readings marked the peak of the August heat scale and kept Xinjiang prominent not only in provincial averages but also in the most extreme daily highs.

Days at or above 35°C were widespread. There were 1915 hot city-days across 294 cities, showing that the heat was not limited to a few isolated stations. Turpan recorded a 35°C-or-higher high on all 31 days of the month, while Huangshi in Hubei had 21 such days and Fengjie in Chongqing had 20. The national mean high of 31°C sat below those hot-day thresholds, but the count of cities reaching them showed how often afternoon temperatures crossed into stronger heat.

Rainfall totals were heaviest in Hainan. Ledong was the wettest city with 1208.3 mm over 30 rain days, followed by Dongfang with 1186.3 mm over 23 rain days and Changjiang with 1167.2 mm over 25 rain days. The driest entries were all in Xinjiang, where Urumqi and Wujiaqu each recorded 7.1 mm, and Hetian had 8.4 mm. The wettest and driest ends of the month therefore stood far apart, with Hainan cities above 1160 mm and the driest Xinjiang cities below 9 mm.

The sharpest single-day temperature drops were led by northern and plateau locations. Tongliao in Inner Mongolia fell from 34.8°C to 24.8°C on 7 Aug, a drop of 10°C. Langfang in Hebei declined from 33.9°C to 24.3°C on 26 Aug, down 9.6°C, and Haidong in Qinghai moved from 30.5°C to 21.1°C on 11 Aug, down 9.4°C. These were the largest listed day-to-day reversals in an otherwise heat-marked August.

August 2026 combined a 31°C national mean high with very hot runs in Xinjiang, Chongqing and Hubei, while Tibet and Qinghai held the coolest provincial averages. The month’s contrast was also clear in rainfall, with Hainan far wetter than the driest Xinjiang cities.

The month’s highest city-day temperatures were all in Xinjiang. Turpan reached 49°C on 2 Jul, the standout reading of the month, while Hami climbed to 45.7°C on 4 Jul and Shihezi reached 43.3°C on 21 Jul. The coolest nights were also clustered on the plateau side of the country, with Guoluo in Qinghai down to 1.2°C on 20 Jul, Haibei in Qinghai at 1.6°C on 4 Jul and Naqu in Tibet at 1.7°C on 19 Jul. These figures framed July as a month of strong extremes, from near 50°C daytime heat in Xinjiang to low single-digit nights in Qinghai and Tibet.

Days at or above 35°C were widespread and frequent. Across the 433 cities, there were 3183 hot city-days, and 315 cities recorded at least one such day. Turpan again stood out with 30 days at or above 35°C, nearly the whole month. In Chongqing, Beibei and Tongnan each recorded 27 hot days, showing how persistent the heat was away from Xinjiang as well. The distribution of hot days matched the provincial picture, with Xinjiang supplying the highest peak readings and Chongqing showing the strongest sustained provincial mean high.

Rainfall totals showed a very different geography, with the wettest places concentrated along the southern coast. Qinzhou in Guangxi was the wettest city, receiving 1126.7 mm over 27 rain days. Fangchenggang, also in Guangxi, followed with 1081.5 mm over 26 rain days, and Shanwei in Guangdong recorded 1009.1 mm over 25 rain days. At the dry end, Xinjiang dominated again: Hami had only 1.3 mm, Turpan 11 mm and Kunyu 15.6 mm. The gap between Qinzhou and Hami was 1125.4 mm, underscoring how sharply July rainfall differed between the coast and inland Xinjiang.

The sharpest single-day temperature drops were in northern and northwestern areas. Eerduosi in Inner Mongolia fell from 33.8°C to 22.8°C on 10 Jul, a drop of 11°C. Xinzhou in Shanxi dropped from 34.6°C to 24.2°C on 5 Jul, down 10.4°C, while Haidong in Qinghai moved from 26.1°C to 15.9°C on 11 Jul, down 10.2°C. These were the clearest breaks in daily temperature from one day to the next during the month.

Overall, July 2026 combined a high national mean maximum with repeated 35°C days across a large majority of cities. Xinjiang supplied both the most intense heat and the driest totals, while the southern coast recorded the month’s heaviest rainfall and the plateau provinces remained the coolest part of the country.

The most extreme daytime heat came early in the month in Xinjiang and later in Hainan. Turpan reached 44.8°C on 1 Jun, the highest city-day of the month. Chengmai followed with 40°C on 25 Jun, while nearby Tunchang reached 39.6°C on the same date. Nights could still be cold in the west, with Ali in Tibet falling to -2.2°C on 3 Jun, Guoluo in Qinghai to -0.4°C on 5 Jun and Haibei in Qinghai to 0.1°C on 13 Jun.

Days of 35°C or higher were widespread enough to total 803 city-days, recorded in 145 cities. Turpan stood out for persistence as well as peak intensity, posting 30 such days in the 30-day month. Hainan also had long runs of heat, led by Changjiang with 27 days and Chengmai with 26 days. The figures put Xinjiang’s Turpan and Hainan’s interior counties at the center of the month’s sustained heat.

Rainfall was heaviest in Guangdong, where the wettest three cities all exceeded 1000 mm for the month. Shenzhen recorded 1161.4 mm over 23 rain days, Zhongshan had 1111.6 mm over 24 rain days, and Shanwei received 1073.8 mm over 21 rain days. At the dry end, Wuhai in Inner Mongolia had only 0.9 mm, while Zhongwei and Wuzhong in Ningxia each recorded 3.1 mm.

The sharpest single-day temperature drops were led by Anhui. Suzhou fell from 34.7°C to 21.4°C on 7 Jun, a drop of 13.3°C, while Huaibei moved from 34.8°C to 22.2°C on the same date, down 12.6°C. Zhaoyang in Liaoning recorded a 12°C fall on 3 Jun, from 34.8°C to 22.8°C.

Overall, June 2026 was a hot month nationally, with the strongest heat focused in Turpan and Hainan and the warmest provincial averages along the southern coast and nearby areas. Rainfall contrasts were also sharp, with Guangdong cities far wetter than the driest stations in Inner Mongolia and Ningxia.

The month’s highest reading came at the very end, when Turpan in Xinjiang reached 41.5°C on 31 May. Earlier peaks included 39.1°C at Tunchang in Hainan on 26 May and 39°C at Panzhihua in Sichuan on 24 May. These were the standout city-day highs in a month when heat was already well established in the south and northwest before the closing days.

Days of 35°C or higher added up to 361 city-days in 104 cities during May. Hainan was prominent in the persistence rankings, with Changjiang recording 15 such days and Chengmai 14. Turpan in Xinjiang followed with 13 days, matching its role as the location of the month’s top single high. The distribution showed both repeated tropical heat in Hainan and sharp late-month intensity in Xinjiang.

Rainfall totals were heaviest along the southern and central-southern side of the country. Yangjiang in Guangdong was the wettest city with 726.9 mm over 20 rain days, while Zhangjiajie in Hunan recorded 584.5 mm over 23 rain days and Maoming in Guangdong had 578.8 mm over 19 rain days. At the dry end, Gansu dominated the lowest totals: Jiuquan received 0.1 mm, Jiayuguan 1.4 mm and Baiyin 7.4 mm.

The sharpest single-day temperature drops were led by two matching falls in Xinjiang on 12 May. Wujiaqu went from 33.3°C to 13.7°C, a drop of 19.6°C, and Urumqi recorded the same fall from 33.3°C to 13.7°C on the same date. Qiqihaer in Heilongjiang followed on 15 May, dropping from 31.8°C to 13.1°C, a fall of 18.7°C.

Overall, May 2026 was a warm month nationally, with Hainan setting the pace by average highs and repeated hot days, while Turpan delivered the highest reading. The month also showed strong contrasts, from subzero nights in Qinghai to heavy rain in Guangdong and abrupt mid-month cooling in Xinjiang and Heilongjiang.

Hainan dominated the month’s hottest readings. Chengmai reached 41.5°C on 10 Apr, the highest city-day of the month, while Changjiang reached 40.4°C on 11 Apr and Danzhou reached 40°C on 10 Apr. Those peaks stood well above the national mean high and made the island the clear center of April heat. Across the country, there were 186 city-days at or above 35°C, spread across 20 cities.

The 35°C threshold was not just touched briefly in Hainan; it accumulated over much of the month in several places. Changjiang recorded 19 such days, Tunchang had 18, and Baisha had 17. That pattern gave the heat a persistent character in the hottest areas, especially when set against the broader national average of 22.6°C and the much cooler provincial means in the north and west.

Rainfall totals were heaviest in Jiangxi. Pingxiang was the wettest location, with 674.2 mm over 19 rain days, followed by Fuzhou with 517.1 mm over 20 rain days and Jian with 512.5 mm over 21 rain days. At the other end of the scale, Alaer in Xinjiang, Sansha in Hainan and Alashanmeng in Inner Mongolia all recorded 0 mm for the month. The contrast between more than 600 mm in Pingxiang and no recorded rain in those three places was one of the clearest divides in the April figures.

The sharpest single-day temperature drops were all in Xinjiang. Akesu fell from 28.2°C to 10.9°C on 4 Apr, a drop of 17.3°C. Kunyu dropped from 25.8°C to 9.2°C on 10 Apr, down 16.6°C, while Tiemenguan fell from 27.6°C to 11.1°C on 4 Apr, down 16.5°C. Overall, April 2026 was marked by strong southern heat, very wet conditions in parts of Jiangxi, dry totals in several far-flung locations, and abrupt day-to-day changes in Xinjiang.

The highest readings all came from Hainan on 31 Mar. Chengmai reached 38.6°C, Lingao reached 38.4°C, and Danzhou reached 38.3°C, making them the three hottest city-days of the month. In total, there were 35 city-days at or above 35°C, spread across 12 cities. Baisha recorded the most such days with 7, Chengmai followed with 6, and Changjiang had 5, keeping the main heat signal firmly within Hainan.

The coldest nights were far below freezing at the start of the month. Heihe in Heilongjiang fell to -32.8°C on 1 Mar, the lowest city-night in the set. Hulunbeier in Inner Mongolia reached -31.8°C on 5 Mar, while Daxinganling in Heilongjiang recorded -30.8°C on 5 Mar. These values sat alongside the low mean highs in Heilongjiang, Jilin and Inner Mongolia, showing that March still carried deep cold in the coolest provinces even as Hainan produced the month’s peak heat.

Rainfall was heaviest in Hunan and Jiangxi. Huaihua in Hunan was the wettest city with 345.4 mm over 23 rain days, while Yiyang in Hunan received 327.3 mm over 23 rain days. Pingxiang in Jiangxi followed closely with 327 mm over 22 rain days. The driest totals were much smaller: Turpan in Xinjiang recorded 0.1 mm, Hetian in Xinjiang had 0.8 mm, and Jinchang in Gansu measured 2 mm.

The sharpest one-day temperature drops were concentrated in Xinjiang on 12 Mar. Beitun fell from 6.4°C to -12.4°C, a drop of 18.8°C, and Aleitai matched that move from 6.4°C to -12.4°C, also down 18.8°C. Boertala fell from 11.4°C to -5.9°C, a drop of 17.3°C. These were the largest single-day declines in the month.

Overall, March 2026 combined a national mean high of 16.2°C with strong contrasts: Hainan supplied the top heat, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia supplied the lowest nights, and the wettest totals clustered around Hunan and Jiangxi. The month closed with a clear split between 35°C+ heat in Hainan and subzero extremes in the coolest city records.

The hottest individual city-day was in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, where the high reached 33.4°C on 20 Feb. Baisha, Hainan, reached 32.8°C on 26 Feb, matching the 32.8°C recorded in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on 15 Feb. Even so, the month produced no 35°C+ city-days, and no cities recorded any 35°C+ days, so the warmest afternoons stayed below the hot-day threshold used here.

The coldest nights remained severe in the far north and northern interior. Daxinganling, Heilongjiang, fell to -34.8°C on 28 Feb, while Hulunbeier, Inner Mongolia, also reached -34.8°C on 6 Feb. Xilinguolei, Inner Mongolia, recorded -32.8°C on 6 Feb, giving Inner Mongolia two of the three lowest nighttime readings listed for the month.

Rainfall was concentrated most strongly in Hunan among the wettest city totals. Hengyang received 182.7 mm over 21 rain days, while Shaoyang had 171.4 mm over 20 rain days and Zhuzhou also had 171.4 mm over 19 rain days. At the dry end, Chuxiong in Yunnan, Baotou in Inner Mongolia and Akesu in Xinjiang each recorded 0 mm, marking a clear contrast with the Hunan totals.

The sharpest one-day temperature falls were led by Chengde, Hebei, which dropped from 19.2°C to 1.3°C on 22 Feb, a change of -17.9°C. In Hunan, Changshashi fell from 24.8°C to 7.1°C on 16 Feb, a -17.7°C drop, while Changsha moved from 25.3°C to 7.7°C on the same date, down -17.6°C. February 2026 therefore combined a moderate national mean high with strong regional contrasts, no 35°C+ heat, heavy rain totals in parts of Hunan, and several sharp single-day reversals.
