Shanghai is good for travel in spring and autumn. During the plum rain season, remember to bring an umbrella.
Minhang has commercial streets, old towns, parks, and relaxed spaces suitable for family walks. The following two-day route links attractions, dining, and transport arrangements, and can be used as a weekend travel reference.
Day 1: Old-Town Charm and an Urban Green Lung
- Morning: Start at Qibao Old Town. You can plan your route by entering from North Street and leaving from South Street. Around South Street, try old-street tangyuan, crabapple cake, and boiled mutton; snacks such as large meat skewers are best chosen with some care. After that, walk to Qibao Temple and climb the pagoda for a distant view of the old town.
- Afternoon: Head to Minhang Cultural Park. The park has a large lawn and a museum that are free to enter, making it suitable for a slow walk and a rest. Afterward, you can visit Powerlong Museum to see an exhibition, or stop for a coffee in the nearby shopping area.
- Evening: Return to the area around Qibao Street for dinner. Choose a local Shanghai restaurant to try dishes such as Shanghai-style braised pork and sizzling eel strips, and experience the everyday neighborhood atmosphere of Minhang’s streets and lanes.
Day 2: Lesser-Known Sights and a Riverside Sunset
- Morning: Visit Deqiu Lixiang Valley, which has a European-style castle, a small lake with black swans, and several art installations. Light-colored clothing fits the atmosphere of the park well. After about 2–3 hours of visiting, you can walk to the adjacent park area and continue exploring.
- Afternoon: Visit Xinmengtang. Its yellow walls and green windows give it an exotic architectural feel, with a visual geometric atmosphere somewhat like “Monument Valley.” It is recommended to go after 3 p.m., when the light is softer and the stronger sun can be avoided.
- Dusk: Go to Duhang Ferry to watch the sunset. Minpu Bridge, old tall chimneys, and warm yellow evening light appear in the same frame, creating a distinctive industrial landscape. On the 3rd and 4th floors by the ferry, there are also riverside cafés and barbecue restaurants where you can sit by the river, enjoy the breeze, and rest.
Food Recommendations
In Minhang, you can focus on local Shanghai cuisine and small restaurants suitable for group meals. The following places can be included in your dining plans:
-
Haining Bao
The flavor leans sweet. The beef tendon is soft and sticky, and the potatoes and green beans soak up the broth well, making it good with rice.
-
Xiao Yue Lou
Specializes in traditional Cantonese cuisine. The sizzling pork liver is tender, and the eel rice is richly aromatic.
-
Wei Jia Liangpi
A Xi’an-style snack shop. The liangpi is smooth, and the roujiamo is crisp outside and fragrant inside.
-
Jiangxin Xiaochu
One of the “Three Meilong Standouts.” Its roast meats are consistently good, and both the char siu and soy sauce chicken are popular.
-
Bin Sushi
Located around Qibao Old Street. The sushi ingredients are fresh, and the prices are fairly reasonable.
Transport and Notes
- Transport: Qibao Old Town, Zhong’ou Street, Menghuayuan, and other places can be reached directly by metro. Deqiu Lixiang Valley, Menggu South, Duhang Ferry, and similar spots are less convenient by metro transfer, so driving or taking a taxi is more suitable.
- Travel reminders: The stone-paved roads in Qibao Old Town can become slippery when wet, so wear non-slip shoes. Snack shops tend to be crowded around noon on weekends, so consider eating at off-peak times. Some sightseeing spots do not have dense commercial facilities nearby, so it is recommended to carry water and a small amount of snacks.
