The sun is strong by the sea, so protect yourself from the sun and keep an eye on changing weather.

Yangjiang lies on the western Guangdong coast, where island scenery blends with city life. A 3-day, 2-night trip can cover Hailing Island, local food and relaxed time in the city.

  • Hailing Island

Sea breezes, beaches and island life come together here, making it ideal for a few leisurely days of exploring.

  • Mawei Island

A good place to watch the sunset over the sea, with fishing-boat silhouettes and evening clouds creating a peaceful coastal scene.

  • Dajiao Bay

This crescent-shaped bay has soft sand and clear water, making it suitable for swimming and enjoying the sea.

  • Shili Silver Beach

The wide white beach is ideal for watching the sunrise, walking and camping, and you can also look for shells along the shore.

  • Beiluo Secret Realm

White beaches, a cliffside pool and a coastal walkway connect here, offering fine views of the mountains and sea.

Classic 3-Day, 2-Night Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival and your first taste of island life

Arrive at Yangjiang Station around noon, then drive or take a taxi to Hailing Island. Check in around Zhapo Town or Shili Silver Beach in the afternoon. After leaving your bags, walk along Shili Silver Beach and paddle in the water. Before evening, head to Mawei Island for the sunset. At night, choose seafood at Zhapo Seafood Market and have a nearby restaurant cook it for you. Try mantis shrimp and steamed fish.

  • Day 2: A deeper look at the sea and local culture

Visit Beiluo Secret Realm in the morning and follow the coastal walkway past coconut palms and beaches. For lunch, try nearby seafood congee or goose rice. In the afternoon, escape the heat at the Museum of the South China Sea No. 1 and learn about the history of the Maritime Silk Road, or head to Dajiao Bay for time in the water. In the evening, stroll through Luozhou Park or Yiyecheng Pedestrian Street and experience the island’s nighttime atmosphere.

  • Day 3: A quieter hideaway or a relaxed day in the city

If you have time and prefer a peaceful route, get up early and visit Dongping Town. See Feilong Temple and Dongping Windmill Mountain, and learn about local fishing-village life. If you would rather avoid a long journey, rest at the hotel and enjoy the sea, then have Yangjiang white-cut chicken and pig intestine rolls for lunch before buying local specialties such as Yangjiang fermented black beans and heading home.

Yangjiang’s Must-Try Local Foods

Yangjiang’s seafood is fresh, and its local snacks are distinctive too, so leave time in your itinerary to try them.

  • Pig Intestine Rolls

Bean sprouts are wrapped in a thin skin, topped with beef brisket sauce and sesame, giving them a fresh texture and fragrant flavor.

  • Goose Rice

Distinct grains of fried rice are served with fragrant, slightly charred goose, making the rice chewy and full of wok aroma.

  • White-Cut Chicken

With golden skin and tender meat, this chicken is served with a special dipping sauce and tastes fresh without being greasy.

  • Sea Urchin Fried Rice

The rice is fried into distinct grains, with rich sea urchin flavor complementing the fragrant fried rice.

  • Rice Noodle Rolls

Rice noodles are filled with bean sprouts and dried shrimp, then sprinkled with sesame for a savory, layered flavor.

Choosing Where to Stay

  • Zhapo Town: The island’s liveliest center, with convenient dining, shopping and access to the beaches. It suits travelers who like convenience and want to keep costs down.
  • Shili Silver Beach: Most accommodations here are beachfront apartments with sea views from the windows. The beach is gently sloped and the surroundings are quiet, making it suitable for couples and families with children. Dining options nearby are relatively limited.
  • Beiluo Secret Realm: Resort hotels are concentrated here, with cliffside pools and private beaches. The setting is well suited to photographing the seascape and enjoying a holiday.
  • People’s Square in the City Center: If you plan to explore the old streets and try local food, consider staying near People’s Square or Nan’en Road. Taxi fares to many long-established restaurants are relatively low.

Transport and Travel Tips

  • Getting around: After taking the high-speed train to Yangjiang Station, take a taxi or shared ride to Hailing Island. It costs about 30–40 yuan per person and takes around 40 minutes. Attractions on the island are spread out, so renting an electric scooter for about 40–60 yuan per day gives you more flexibility.
  • Choosing seafood: Try to avoid the large food stalls outside scenic areas that call out to passersby. Around 4 p.m., go to Zhapo Fishing Port Market or Baipu Market to choose seafood, then have a nearby restaurant cook it. Cooking fees are generally 15–25 yuan per jin. Confirm the price and unit before ordering, and ask whether it is charged by the jin or by the liang.
  • Sun protection and weather: UV levels by the sea are strong, so bring high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and sandals. Check the forecast before setting out, as typhoons or strong winds may cause some coastal attractions to close.
  • Tide-pool foraging: If you want to catch crabs, check the tide table in advance and visit Mawei Island or Washai Bay during low tide around the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month. Rocks can easily cause cuts, so wear non-slip shoes during the activity.
