Ledong is located on Hainan’s western route. Compared with Sanya, it is quieter, with tropical rainforest, coastal sunsets, and local food that feels close to everyday life. The following plan is suitable for a relaxed 3-day, 2-night trip, focusing on natural scenery and local experiences.

Itinerary Route Plan

• Day 1: Arrive in Ledong → Jianfengling National Forest Park (rainforest hiking / visit Tianchi Lake) → Longmu Bay (watch the sunset) → Stay in Huangliu Town or the county seat.

• Day 2: Huangliu Baima Shopping Mall (breakfast and snacks) → Yinggehai Salt Field (photograph reflections in the salt pans) → Yinggehai Fishing Port (watch fishing boats return / taste seafood) → Stay in Yinggehai or the county seat.

• Day 3: Maogong Mountain (view the natural landform from a distance) → Ledong County pedestrian street / night market (try snacks along the street) → Return trip.

Main Attractions Overview

Ledong’s attractions are relatively spread out. The area includes both natural scenery and cultural sights, so leave plenty of time for travel between stops.

• Jianfengling National Forest Park: This is one of the larger remaining areas of tropical primeval rainforest in China, with high forest coverage. You can walk along the wooden boardwalk in Mingfeng Valley and see ancient trees over a thousand years old. Depending on opening conditions, you may also climb the main peak to watch the sea of clouds and sunrise. Before setting out, confirm whether the main peak is under maintenance or open to visitors.
• Longmu Bay: Known as “China’s most beautiful sunset beach,” it has a 7-kilometer stretch of sand. In the evening, the sun sinks toward the sea horizon, making it suitable for walking, feeling the sand underfoot, sitting quietly, and watching the sea. On clear nights, you can also stargaze.
• Yinggehai Salt Field: As a large sea-salt production base in South China, its vast salt pans form broad reflections under the sunlight. After 4 p.m., the light becomes softer, and the layered salt piles look like snow-capped mountains, making it a good time to photograph the salt-field scenery.
• Maogong Mountain: This site is known because the mountain’s outline resembles a reclining figure of a great leader, and it is also a Ledong landmark with red-culture significance. Visitors interested in natural landforms and revolutionary history can choose a clear day to view it from a distance.

Transport and Accommodation Tips

• Transport: Attractions in Ledong are far apart, and public transport is not very frequent, so self-driving or hiring a car is recommended. If taking the high-speed rail, you can get off at Huangliu Station and then take a taxi to the attractions.
• Where to Stay: If you value convenient transport and dining options, stay in Ledong County seat (Baoyou Town) or Huangliu Town, where there are more hotels and it is easy to eat and stroll around. If you want to be closer to seaside sunsets, consider a sea-view guesthouse near Longmu Bay.

• Sun Protection and Mosquito Prevention: Hainan has strong UV rays, and reflections from the salt fields and seaside are noticeable. Bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen. When hiking in the rainforest, wear non-slip shoes and carry mosquito repellent.
• Attraction Opening Status: The main peak of Jianfengling may sometimes be closed due to construction or maintenance. Check in advance before traveling to avoid having to adjust your itinerary at the last minute.
• Travel Pace: Ledong is better suited to slow-paced travel and more untouched local experiences. Its western-route seascapes differ from those on the eastern route. Its advantages are fewer crowds, a quieter environment, and relatively affordable costs, making it suitable for travelers who prefer in-depth travel.
