Recommended Classic 3-Day, 2-Night Itinerary
- Day 1 Arrival and First Look at the Old Town: Arrive in Lijiang in the afternoon. After checking in, go first to Zhongyi Market to experience the atmosphere of a local everyday market. You can try grilled rushan cheese and mushroom fried rice. In the evening, enter Lijiang Old Town and visit the Big Water Wheels and Sifang Street in order. At night, head to the Wenchang Palace viewing platform to enjoy the night view of the old town from above.
- Day 2 Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Blue Moon Valley: Set out early in the morning for Dongba Valley or Ganhaizi to wait for the sunrise glow on the snow-capped mountain. Then go to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and take the large cableway up to the 4,680-meter area. Cableway tickets need to be reserved in advance. After coming down the mountain, visit Blue Moon Valley. The lake water is clear and beautifully colored, so it is worth leaving enough time to enjoy it at a relaxed pace.
- Day 3 Slow Visit to Original-Style Old Villages and Towns: In the morning, go to Baisha Old Town. You can rest on the second floor of a café, and when visibility is good, you can see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. In the afternoon, go to Yuhu Village to experience the quiet atmosphere of a century-old stone village. Alternatively, go to Yunshanping to visit the alpine meadow. Return to the old town in the evening and have a meal of cured pork rib hot pot.

How to Choose Where to Stay
- Around Lijiang Old Town: Convenient for getting around, visiting attractions, eating, and shopping. Consider staying near the north or south gate of the old town first, and try to avoid main roads to reduce noise. Inside the old town, many roads are paved with stone slabs, making it inconvenient to drag luggage. Before checking in, you can contact your guesthouse for help carrying your bags.
- Shuhe Old Town: The environment is quieter than Dayan, and homestay prices are relatively flexible. It suits visitors who prefer a slower pace and plan to stay for several days. Some homestays have parking areas.
- Baisha Old Town: It is closer to the snow mountain, and many homestays have direct views of the mountain, making it convenient for watching the sunrise glow on the peaks. It suits people who like original-style surroundings and photography, but transport is relatively less convenient and dining options are fewer.
Practical Tips
- Cableway Ticket Reservations: Tickets for the large cableway at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain are in high demand. It is recommended to reserve them 1–2 days in advance through the “Lijiang Tourism Group” mini program at 8:00 p.m. If you cannot get tickets, you can adjust your itinerary and go to Yunshanping instead.
- Preparing Oxygen Bottles: It is not recommended to buy oxygen bottles at high prices inside the scenic area, and do not easily trust sales pitches from drivers or roadside vendors. You can buy them in advance at pharmacies in the city for about 15 yuan per bottle. Prices in the scenic area are usually 68–80 yuan.
- Be Careful with Low-Price Tours: Do not sign up for low-price tours such as “99-yuan day tours” recommended by roadside vendors or drivers. They are more likely to include shopping stops and affect your travel experience. Independent travel or choosing a reputable pure sightseeing tour is more reliable.
- Sun Protection and Warm Clothing: UV rays are strong on the plateau, so prepare sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. In October, the temperature difference between morning and evening is large, and temperatures on the mountaintop may drop below 5°C. A windproof jacket or shell jacket is recommended, along with layered clothing.
- Old Town Maintenance Fee: At present, most entrances do not strictly check the old town maintenance fee. You can choose an entrance with fewer people according to the situation on site to avoid waiting too long at the main gate.
- Buying Silver Jewelry and Jade: Some “snowflake silver” and jade shops in the old town have high markups. If you are not familiar with how to judge quality and authenticity, it is recommended to buy only from regular large shopping malls.
