Meishan is humid and hot in summer, so spring and autumn are more comfortable times to visit.

Meishan has deep ties to Su Shi culture. The city has an unhurried pace and plenty of dining choices, making it well suited to a short weekend or long-weekend trip that combines culture, nature, and local flavors.

  • Inside Liujiang Ancient Town: You can choose a stilt-house guesthouse and enjoy the ancient town’s night views. Better for a slower-paced trip.
• Transport guide:
  • Intercity transport: The high-speed train from Chengdu East Railway Station to Meishan East Railway Station takes about 30 minutes and costs around 33 yuan, making travel easy.
  • Local transport: Meishan’s urban area has tourist shuttle routes and buses, and taxis are also convenient. For Wawu Mountain or Liujiang Ancient Town, self-driving is recommended, or you can take a coach from the bus station.

• Sansu Shrine: Closed on Mondays, so check opening hours before setting out. If you memorize Su Shi poems in advance, you may have a chance to get free admission.
• Dongpo Impression Water Street: The nighttime lighting and performances can vary greatly in experience. Going in the evening lets you enjoy both sunset and night views; daytime is better for strolling and dining. If you plan to watch a performance, choose a spot in advance.
• Wawu Mountain: Temperatures at the summit are relatively low, so even in summer it is advisable to bring a light jacket or shell. Hiking takes a long time, so wear comfortable, non-slip athletic shoes.
• Food queues: Some popular restaurants and long-established eateries in Meishan, such as Mawangzi, can have long waits during peak dining hours. Take a number in advance or avoid mealtimes.
